EV RALLY 2024

Welcome to the 2024 EV Rally, proudly sponsored by Lex Autolease. Building upon the success of previous years, this rally celebrates the potential of pure electric vehicles (EVs) and their role in sustainable transportation.

Our aim is to demonstrate that no matter what the job, there is likely an EV available that can perform the task, helping your business achieve your net zero goals.

The participants

Variety defines our participants. From experienced EV drivers to newcomers and sceptics, everyone contributed to the rally’s spirit. Our team included:

  • A battle-tested, nearly nine-year-old Tesla with over 250,000 miles on the clock.
  • The BYD Dolphin, a compact EV packed with technology at an affordable price point.
  • Two electric vans, not empty but filled with donations for charity Crisis.

Alongside our team, a fleet of approximately 50 EVs was on the road showcasing their ability. From a low-range e-bike to a 40-tonne electric truck.

The journey - an A to Z route

Our journey began in the Midlands at the Innovation centre of the AA. From there, we travelled clockwise covering nearly 1,500 electric miles over five days. Inspired by the ‘old school’ A to Z road maps, our 26 checkpoints were reached in alphabetical order.

Unlike previous years, where journey planning was integral to success, the challenge became the route, navigating different roads and landscapes. Charging infrastructure has developed so much that finding a charger or being close to a rapid-charging station was no longer a concern to the drivers. It was more about charging whilst taking a break, not having to take a break to charge.

But the 2024 EV Rally wasn't just about miles; it was about reducing emissions and improving air quality. Our EVs collectively help combat climate change. We will use the data on energy consumption and emissions collected during the rally to deepen our knowledge and enhance our consultancy offerings.

Our confidence in EVs

Lex Autolease is part of Lloyds Banking Group’s Transport division, funding over 157,000 battery electric vehicles in the UK. Through our work and events like the EV Rally, we are working to dispel myths, and prove that this technology is reliable and safe.

We recognise that transport is the single largest contributor to UK greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for around a quarter of all UK emissions. The decarbonisation of transport is an opportunity to improve air quality, reduce harmful emissions, create new jobs, and grow the UK economy in an exciting, innovative sector.

Our film

Our Managing Director Nick Williams tells us about his experience putting a used Tesla through its paces at this year’s EV Rally, helping to demonstrate the longevity and reliability of older EVs.
