Motoring fines and charges

I have received an admin fee for a driving offence

Lex Autolease applies an admin fee for any driving offence we receive and process.

Usually this will be £10 where we receive the notification, and you pay the fine yourself.

Where we have agreed to pay the fine for you, we'll charge an admin fee of £25.

Lex isn't responsible for issuing the fine. If you want to contest it, you must contact the issuer directly. You should do this once they reissue the fine to you.

Please see the relevant information on the types of fines further down this page.

If you successfully appeal the fine and give evidence, we’ll credit the admin fee back to you. You can email us to do this.

I have received a speeding fine

The police will send speeding offences (Notices of Intended Prosecution) to Lex Autolease. Lex will notify the police of who leases the vehicle.

It is then up to the company or person leasing the vehicle to inform the police who was driving at the time of the offence.

The police will contact the driver and tell them the next course of action. This may be a fine, licence endorsement, or a speed awareness course.

There may be an admin fee charged by Lex Autolease for administration.

I have received a council parking fine

If you receive a parking fine, you have the timeframe specified on the ticket to respond to the notice. You can either pay or appeal the fine.

If you ignore the ticket, then the issuing authority will issue a Parking Charge Notice to Lex Autolease. Lex will respond to the fine (depending on your policy).

Some parking fines are issued by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). These will come to Lex Autolease and are responded to in line with your policy.

If you're unsure of your policy terms, please speak to our Customer Service team.

I have received a private parking charge

On receiving a private parking notice, we’ll follow the customer’s policy and either pay or nominate.

If the customer’s policy is to pay the fine, we’ll pay the issuing private parking company. We’ll then recharge the full amount to the customer.

Depending on the policy, this could incur an administration fee.

If you've asked us to nominate the company or individual's details, we’ll give these to the private company.

Once they receive the details, the private parking company will transfer the liability into the customer’s name.

They’ll then issue a fresh notice. It then becomes the responsibility of the customer to either pay, appeal or nominate further.

Depending on the policy, this could incur an administration fee.

Should you receive a fine it is important to pay the fine promptly, or appeal directly to the private parking company.

If you do not pay the fine, Lex Autolease may have to pay the escalated fine amount, which would be fully recharged to the customer.

Someone's clamped or towed my car

Someone could clamp or tow your car for several reasons. Typically, this happens because of illegal parking, invalid insurance, or unpaid parking fines.

There are various parties that can clamp or impound a vehicle including the police, the local council, or the DVLA.

To release your vehicle, you should call the authority that clamped your vehicle. The details will be on the leaflet left on the vehicle. You’ll typically have to pay a fee to have the clamp removed.

If you suspect someone towed your car away, ring the police non-emergency number 101 to find where they took it.

You’ll then have seven days to recover the vehicle. You’ll have to pay the recovery fee along with any daily storage fees.

You’ll also have to show various documents to collect your vehicle, which may vary from authority to authority. Please contact the document management team on 0344 824 0706 to request any documents for the vehicle release.

Paying tolls and clean air zone charges

Driving in an Ultra Low Emission Zone

The UK has many clean air and ULEZ zones. When you drive in one of these areas, make sure your vehicle meets the standards. If it doesn't meet the standards, you'll need to pay a fee.

It is the driver's responsibility to check their vehicle's compliance and pay any applicable daily fees for driving in these zones.

For more information about ULEZ zones in the UK please visit the government website.

If you receive a fine for not paying to drive a non-compliant vehicle in a ULEZ zone, we will pay the fine and recharge this to you. You can appeal the fine directly with the issuer.

London congestion charges

Drivers need to pre-register or pay the daily charge when they enter the Congestion Zone.

If a vehicle is unregistered or the driver forgets to make the payment, Lex Autolease will receive a Penalty Charge Notice from Transport for London.

A London by-law prevents Lex Autolease from making a representation against the offence. The registered keepers must pay the congestion charges.

The fine will be paid and recharged to the customer.

An administration fee may be charged.

If the customer wants to appeal the fine, they can do so directly with Transport for London.

Motoring tolls

There are many toll roads, bridges and tunnels across the UK.

Some of these are barrier controlled and others use number plate recognition to record the vehicle's registration for payment online.

The driver must make sure they pay the vehicle tolls as specified by the policy for the road or crossing.

If you receive a fine for an unpaid toll, we'll process it in line with our fines process.

An admin fee may be charged.
