Keeping your vehicle in the best condition

The importance of regular servicing and maintenance

Maintaining your vehicle is the key to keep it running smoothly and efficiently.

The vehicle must have a full service record when it's returned at the end of the contract. Please make sure you book it for regular services.

If not, you may face charges for missing service history.

The vehicle manufacturer will set out a service schedule, which you’ll need to follow.

Sometimes it is a fixed interval or mileage, and sometimes it is based on data from the car worked out by driving style and conditions.

Staying on top of maintenance checks is essential. Check that your tyre tread depth stays within legal limits. Monitor your fluid levels, and top them up when necessary.

Book tyre repair or replacement

Call

You can book puncture repairs and tyre replacements from our supplier, Kwik Fit. Call 0330 123 1590 between Monday to Friday 8 am to 6 pm, or visit one of their local centres.

Online

You can book a tyre replacement directly using the Lex Driver Portal.

Check the lights, tyres, and windscreens before your MOT appointment. Arrange to fix any issues. This may help reduce the time your vehicle is off the road.

If you have a maintenance package as part of your agreement, it includes the routine service and general maintenance costs. If MOTs, tyres, and other general maintenance needs fall under fair wear and tear, we include them.

Maintenance agreements don't cover repairs needed for damage, theft, vandalism, driver neglect, or misuse. So, we'll charge for those repairs.

The British Vehicle Rental Leasing Association provides information on what is covered and what isn’t in the Fair Wear and Tear guidelines.

Kwik Fit might not have every tyre size at all branches. It's a good idea to call the centre before you arrive.

What to do if you pay for your own maintenance

Book an MOT

You can use any garage you like to book an MOT.

Having a valid MOT is a legal requirement. You must MOT your vehicle after 3 years (4 years in Northern Ireland) and then every year after.

Kwik Fit is our preferred supplier and we’ve agreed specific rates, which may be more cost-effective. If you want to book with them, let them know you're a Lex Autolease customer.

As you don't have a maintenance package with us, you'll be responsible for the costs of your MOT test and any work needed.

Book a service

To book routine servicing or maintenance for your vehicle, you can speak to your local franchised dealer. You can use our supplier finder to find your nearest franchise dealer.

We’ll ask for your service voucher book when you return the vehicle, so you should ask the dealer to update it after each service. They should also update the service history online.

We may charge a fee if you fail to have your vehicle serviced regularly, or if there are stamps missing in your service voucher book.

As you don't have a maintenance package with us, you’ll be responsible for the costs for servicing and maintenance.

Book tyre repair or replacement

You can book a tyre repair or replacement with any supplier you select.

You must take care not to drive your vehicle with tyres lower than the legal limit. The minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm. This depth must be in a continuous band around the central three-quarters of the tyre.

As you don't have a maintenance package with us, you'll be responsible for the costs of your tyre repairs and replacements.

Recalls and warranty claims

You should contact the franchise dealership directly for any recall work or warranty repairs.

Whether you have a maintenance package or not these repairs will be paid for by the manufacturer directly.

Further information

I need to order new floor mats, number plates or other accessories

If you are a company car or salary sacrifice driver and have a problem with the mats or number plates supplied with your vehicle, please contact a Customer Service representative in the first instance.

Please be aware that we'll replace these items at no cost only if they're faulty. They mustn't have been damaged as a result of an accident. They must’ve come from our supplier or fall under the three-year warranty coverage.

If you want to add accessories to your vehicle after delivery, you need approval. This includes items like a tow bar, audio equipment, a telephone kit, driving lamps, fog lamps, body kits, or modifications. You must get approval from your company if you're on Business Contract Hire. You also need approval from Lex Autolease.

All expenses for any changes made to your vehicle after delivery, including maintenance of these items, are your responsibility.

If you remove any accessories, we ask you to repair any damage caused by fitting them. This means the vehicle is returned to us in its original condition.

Will I get a replacement vehicle?

This depends on the type of warranty that applies to your vehicle, your contract type, and also the provision from the manufacturer.  If your vehicle contract includes relief vehicle provision then a replacement vehicle will be made available for a maximum of 28 days. This may not be a like-for-like vehicle.

If your vehicle doesn't include relief vehicle cover, it depends on what the manufacturer offers. Replacement vehicle cover from the manufacturer is outside of our control and usually falls into three main categories:

Manufacturer or dealer provides onward mobility – you would need to supply a credit card and driving licence before driving the vehicle.

Manufacturer does not support any form of onward mobility – it is your responsibility to arrange another vehicle while repairs are being completed.

Manufacturer offers a value of support per day to help customers with their onward mobility costs - the value may not cover the full amount of the daily charge. The request for this type of support must be made before the customer incurs any costs as retrospective claims are not supported.

If unsure check your contract entitlement and with the dealer.

Can I add maintenance and servicing to my lease?

You need to choose a service and maintenance package before your lease begins. Once the lease starts, you can't add or remove it.

When you select business or personal leasing, you can opt for our maintenance cover at the start of your agreement. We'll include the cost in your monthly rental. This way, you can relax, knowing everything runs smoothly without surprise costs.

You can add or remove the service on any renewal of the vehicle.
